What They Are
Image Arts Foundation was created in 1994 to advance local educational opportunities for students that would otherwise go without. In September 2001 the nonprofit began a computers-to-schools recycling program to benefit a local elementary school. Image Arts needed donations, volunteers and a place to do its work–all for free.
We know a good thing when we see it, so we stepped in and worked pro bono to get the nonprofit where it needed to be. We contacted the local press to familiarize reporters with this worthwhile program, then we contacted local tech schools to recruit tech-savvy volunteers. Once we got the ball rolling we contacted local civic groups in search of a home for the nonprofit.
Our success was phenomenal. Several local papers ran stories, which resulted in plenty of computer donations, and the volunteer list swelled. As a result, 200 computers were donated to needy schools in the first 12 months of the program–and it’s still going strong.
